Het laatste lid dat erbij kwam was Cass Elliot, Doherty's bandgenoot in The Mugwumps. De groep overwoog zichzelf The Magic Cyrcle te noemen voordat ze overschakelden naar The Mamas and the Papas, blijkbaar ge?nspireerd door de Hells Angels, wier vrouwelijke medewerkers "mamas" werden genoemd.
